Welcome to Evansville

Discover Wisconsin has named Evansville a Choice Destination because of its rich history and architecture, entrepreneurial spirit, community events and celebrations, natural beauty, and vision for the future.

History...

HistoryThe Wisconsin Historical Society has identified Evansville as home to “the finest collection of 1840s to 1915 architecture of any small town in Wisconsin.”  Recent re-installation of the original brick paved Main Street is a signature revitalization project.  Many downtown business owners have undertaken major building restorations, with several projects receiving historic preservation awards.  Self-guided walking tours are available to appreciate the architecture of historic buildings in and around the historic district.

Arts...

ArtsEnjoy browsing a unique selection of quality pottery, sculpture, fiber arts, painting, jewelry, glass, and wood creations.  The annual Fall Studio Tour by the 14 South Artists includes Evansville, with several local artists exhibiting.

Enjoy live performances by the Evansville Community Theatre, summertime Concerts at the Lake, bands during the Fourth of July Celebration, and live music at local taverns and other events.

Recreation...

RecreationVisit Leonard-Leota Park and enjoy the wildlife on the 28-acre stream-fed Lake Leota.  An outdoor public swimming pool, picnic areas, playgrounds, and an old-fashioned park store are other amenities.   County parks at Magnolia Bluff and at Gibbs Lake provide scenic views, picnic and wildlife areas, cross-country ski/hiking trails, bridle paths for horseback riding, and a boat landing and fishing.  The Evansville Wildlife Area is state managed land for public hunting and nature study.

Enjoy the beauty and challenge of the Evansville Golf Club, one of the finest public golf courses in southern Wisconsin.  Evansville’s 18 hole, par 72 golf course also offers a driving range, pro shop, and restaurant.

Shops... & Dining...

RetailFollow the brick road through downtown Evansville for an enticing variety of vintage and new home furnishings and decorations, antiques, jewelry, books, clothing and accessories, flowers, candy, and distinctive gifts for all ages.

At one of our friendly restaurants, you will find a meal for your appetite - whether sandwiches for a picnic lunch in the park, Friday fish fry, or generous portions at a sit-down family restaurant.

Spirit of Community...

EventsWith a population of 5,000, Evansville cherishes its strong sense of community and small town charm.  Residents gather often for concerts, festivals, and celebrations.

The Chamber of Commerce maintains current information and dates for all community events on its Calendar of Events (leaves city website).
