The Arts in Evansville

Renowned American impressionist painter Theodore Robinson (1852-1896) spent his youth in Evansville and is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Robinson spent six years in Giverny, France, working with Claude Monet.

Well-known contemporary artist John Wilde (1919-2006), surrealist painter and University of Wisconsin-Madison professor, resided in Evansville.

Art continues to be a vital part of Evansville’s fabric, as home to award winning artists, unique galleries and studios, and spring and fall art crawls.  Enjoy browsing a unique selection of quality pottery, sculpture, fiber arts, painting, jewelry, glass, and wood creations.

The annual Fall Studio Tour by the 14 South Artists includes Evansville, with several local artists exhibiting.

The Eager Free Public Library hosts an annual show of the works of local artists; Windmills on Parade brings public art displays to Main Street during the summer months; and murals in the schools and Grange Store recognize the importance of art in our lives.

Enjoy live performances by the Evansville Community Theatre, summertime Concerts at the Lake, bands during the Fourth of July Celebration, and live music at local taverns and other events.
