City Hall News – November 2009

 

Evansville Police BadgeThe Police Department has moved back downtown.  The new address is 10 West Church Street (old Fire Hall).  There is no change to the non-emergency phone (882-2292) or other numbers.

 

On November 10, the City Council approved the 2010 budget and set the property tax levy at $6.87706 per $1000 assessed value.  This is a 1.2% decrease in the tax rate.  For more info.....

 

The City has applied for a grant through Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program to change city streetlights over to LEDs and to install solar tubes and high efficiency lighting in the Public Works Garage.  The projected energy savings from these fixtures is $16,000 per year.

 

Fall leaf collection continues.  Please rake only leaves (no sticks or brush) into the gutter for collection.  Brush and yard waste can be taken to the City Disposal Site at 465 Water Street on Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm through mid-November.

 

Please remove summer decorations from Maple Hill Cemetery by November 11 to allow for fall cleaning.  Please wait until Monday, November 23 to place any winter decorations.

 

Winter parking regulations go into effect Nov 15 to April 15.  On-street Odd-Even Parking is enforced between 1 am and 7 am.  If you park your car before midnight, please remember the date change that will occur at midnight.

 

Improvement of the "south loop" 3-phase electric line along Highways 59 and 104 is on schedule.

 

Congratulations to the Inventors and Entrepreneurs Club (I&E) on its one-year anniversary.  I&E meets the second Wednesday every month to provide local entrepreneurs, start-ups, and established businesses with an opportunity for networking and learning.

 

Santa ArrivesThe Evansville Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism holds its annual Olde Fashioned Christmas the weekend of November 20-22.  The family-fun weekend includes free horse drawn carriage rides, holiday music, crafts and activities, and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus.  Many downtown merchants will have extended shopping hours and weekend specials.  Discover Wisconsin will be filming portions of the weekend for its upcoming Evansville feature.  For more weekend info......

 

AWARE's Love Light Tree will be marking its 12th year on Dec 4.  To recognize a friend or relative, send your deductable $10 donation to AWARE at PO Box 4; be sure to include your name and address and the name of the person you want to honor.

 

AWARE also coordinates the Toys for Evansville program.  Registration for income-eligible families continues through Nov 13 at the Ecumenical Care Closet (206 South Madison Street).

 

Evansville Emergency Medical Service will be attending its regular Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) on November 28.

 

The Park Board is considering renting out operation of the Park Store during summer 2010.  If you or your organization is interested, please call City Hall at 882-2266 or email Aquatics Director Rick Hamacher at rboston@ticon.net.
