Program Highlights

AWARE in Evansville's mission is to identify needs, research solutions, and coordinate resources that provide support for economically and socially disadvantaged members of the Evansville community, because when people succeed, our community succeeds.

AWARE focuses its work specifically on the needs of the Evansville community. Its local advisory board and focus groups help AWARE to develop the services and opportunities local residents need to help themselves achieve a better life.

Free annual programs for low-income residents of the Evansville Community School District:

 

Snackpacker Backpack Program
· Nutritious breakfast, lunch and snacks sent home with children right from school
Emergency Prescription Program
· Limited fund to help cover the cost of emergency prescriptions
Easter Holiday Program
· Food baskets and candy-filled eggs
Koats for Kids
· Coats, boots, snowpants, hats, mittens, and more
Toys for Evansville
· Toys, clothing and food baskets

Annual Drives
Rub-A-Dub Dub bath supply drive
Food for the 4th community-wide food drive
Diaper Days diaper drive
*School Supplies

*Distributed directly through the school. Donations from the other annual drives are distributed from the food pantry at the Evansville Ecumenical Care Closet, 206 S. Madison Street.

Week of the Young Child Celebration
Community-coordinated free family night event in April, including a parade.

In addition, AWARE works to bring additional opportunities to residents such as:

Employment focus groups and an educational employment workshop series
Madison Metro commuter bus service (project in progress)
Emergency Shelter Assistance (project in progress)
Rental Property Working Group (weatherization, home improvement loans and more)

AWARE produces a monthly newsletter, available at the office & the Ecumenical Care Closet at 206 S. Madison St.


AWARE in Evansville is a program of Community Action, Inc. It is also a partner agency of United Way of North Rock County. Financial contributions from United Way, the City of Evansville, individuals, businesses, churches, and other organizations make AWARE’s programming possible.
