The City of Evansville is accepting applications for the position of General Laborer within the Public Works Department. This is a full-time position which involves the general duties necessary to maintain the streets, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, public buildings, parks and other public facilities. While equipment operation experience is preferred other relevant experience can come from many different career paths including but not limited to mechanical, agricultural, landscaping, construction or any labor that involves the combination of physical work and mental problem solving/planning.
Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months. Must be able to lift 50 pounds routinely and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Must be willing to work in all types of weather and be available on-call on a schedule rotation and during snow storms. A can-do attitude, ability to work as a team, great customer service, and desire to develop professionally is also must. A DMV background check, drug test and a pre-employment physical exam will be required.
Starting pay is $22.59 to $24.35 an hour depending on experience with great benefits including paid vacation, sick time, paid holidays, health care, dental, life insurance, and retirement.
