City Calendar
Common Council - The governing body of the City of Evansville. Comprised of the mayor and eight alderpersons.
Finance & Labor Relations Committee - Three alderpersons appointed to supervise financial and personnel matters of the City.
Board of Review - Statutory citizens board that hears and decides appeals by property owners dissatisfied with the value placed on their property by the city assessor for property tax purposes.
Evansville - Union Implementation Committee - Three members each from the City of Evansville and the Town of Union appointed to discuss and recommend means of intergovernmental cooperation to attain the intent of each municipality's smart growth plan.
Plan Commission - Statutory committee with responsibility for the City's comprehensive plan, subdivision regulations, and the zoning code.
Zoning Board of Appeals - Statutory board authorized to hear appeals and review decisions of the zoning administrator and building inspector, also has authority to grant variances to the zoning code.
Uniform Land Development Code (ULDC) Committee - An ad hoc advisory committee charged with drafting and recommending a uniform land development code consistent with the City's smart growth plan.
Water and Light Utility Committee - Three alderpersons appointed to supervise the water and light utilities.
Public Benefits Committee - An advisory committee charged with reviewing applications for and recommending distribution of public benefits funds.
Public Works Committee - Three alderpersons appointed to supervise the public works department, including Maple Hill Cemetery, sanitation, and the wastewater treatment system.
Park and Recreation Board - Appointed to supervise the management and operations of the parks, lakes, and streams; the city recreation department, Veterans Memorial Pool, and the park store.
Public Safety Committee - Three alderpersons appointed to supervise the police department, licenses, and the emergency medical service.
Police Commission - Statutory citizens board with jurisdiction over hiring, promotions, and discipline of police officers. The board does not supervise day-to-day operations of the police department.
Evansville Fire Protection District - An independent municipal entity created to provide fire protection in the City of Evansville and parts of the Towns of Brooklyn, Magnolia, Porter, and Union.
Economic Development Committee - Appointed to develop a regional business environment conducive to the retention and expansion of existing businesses and the attraction of new businesses.
Redevelopment Authority - Statutory board with responsibility for redevelopment programs, primarily located within Tax Incremental District #5.
Housing Authority - Statutory board with responsibility for distribution of Section 8 vouchers, management of South Meadows Apartment Complex, and administering CDBG funds.
Historic Preservation Commission - Appointed to develop appropriate criteria for identifying local landmarks, promoting public education for historic preservation, and reviewing applications for building and demolition permits in the historic district.
Youth Center Advisory Board - Committee appointed to advice and guide the YMCA and its on-site program manager regarding operations of the youth program.
Eager Free Public Library Board - Statutory board established to administer the library, including its finances and personnel.
